Week-End Write Test - Drawing With Cricut

Written By Xay on Saturday, January 30, 2021 | 9:38 AM

Two new fonts tested with the markers this week-end, both will write without bubbling, at 1 inch tall. For the bic pen (super fine tip) you would want to stay at less than 1/2 an inch tall, to avoid that "outline" look.

While doing this test this morning, I took short video clips of each of the markers, so you can see which markers I use and how they work for me.

When using the markers in cricut, the pen follows the path of the blade, as if it were cutting - so often you get an outline, or "bubble" look.  Cricut would like you to purchase their fonts to use when writing - they have a few special fonts that are made to work in their program without bubbling.  If you purchase from cricut, you can ONLY use the fonts in their program.

Some fonts, such as the ones shown here, will "collapse on themselves" and appear to be single line.  Others truly are single line.  If I am going to pay for a font, personally, I prefer to pay for a font I can use in ANY program.  But typically, I can find what I need for free.  :-)

There are more than 100 fonts that work as writing fonts in cricut.  I have samples of them, sorted by pen size, here:

Now, The Markers
The Maker and the Air machines have the exact same pen holder attachment, so it does not matter which machine you are using.  You can purchase special adaptors for sharpie markers, and you can use rubber grips and rubber bands to make a variety of pens work.  I don't mess with any of that.  These are pens that fit right into the pen holder, no adaptor needed.
Here's a full list of the markers I use regularly:

And here are some video clips from the write test shown above.
Note that cricut writes all out of order - it does not start on the left and write smoothly to the right, it will write random letters all out of order. And see how it missed part of the B in beauty with the Dollar Tree Marker?  That happens randomly sometimes, it has nothing to do with the marker - it does this with Cricut markers too.  It's been more common in the past few months, the latest Design Space updates have been horrible.  Switching back to "Classic Canvas" helps with a lot of the issues, but not all of them.
